Everest
The program
I’ll
leave at the beginning of April 2005 from Milan and I’ll land
at Kathmandu, capital of Nepal, where I’ll spend some days for
legal foemalities. From Kathmandu I’ll fly over the Hymalaian
chain and land in Tibet. I’ll reach Lhasa by land and I’ll
stay in this town one day to visit it. It is at 3600 mt and is divided
into two different parts: the new Lhasa, mainly Chinese (built in
the last 30 years) and the old Lhasa, centre of the Tibetan culture,
that develops around the Jokhang monastery.
- Lhasa-Gygantze: the road climbs up the slopes of Kampala La (4990 mt) from where you can admire Lake Yamdrok. You can reach the third biggest city of Tibet climbing over Karo Pass (5010 mt), that is between two glaciers.
- Gygantze-Xigatze: crossing the cultivated valley of Nyagqu by Tashilumpo, residence of Pangh Lama you reach the second most important city of Tibet.
- Xigatze-Tingri: transfer to Xegar and then you go on to Tingri, interesting Tibetan village and belvedere to Mount Everest.
- Tingri – Rongbuck (5200 mt): once you have crossed the river, you follow the roads that leads to the Monastery of Ronbuck, that is the highest perpetually inhabited Gompa and is in front of the impressive Everest.
From Rongbuck the path leads to the BC (5400mt) and the ABC (6500mt)
where I’ll settle my “house” for a couple of months.
I’ve planned to use three high camps to reach the summit. C1
at the North mountain pass at 7070 mt, C2 at about 7900 mt and C3
at the beginning of the crest at 8300.
The aim of the expedition
The aim of this expedition is to climb Mount Everest following the north side and then the north-easr crest in my usual style: alone, without oxygen and high altitude porters.
